Yes, you must have Excel installed since it automates Excel. Yes, I think it works from Excel 95 and updwards. All depends on what you want to do of course. Some features are only available in newer versions.
I don't think you can just install part of the files. I bet they all depend on eachother and only a few file will crash. But there are a couple of options. http://www.tmssoftware.com has something called Flexcel. http://www.axolot.com/components/index.htm has something XLSReadWrite and XLSMini. With these you don't need Excel installed. Note that Excel can also easily read CSV and Tab-formatted data (plain text-files). Using following code: uses ComObj; var ExcelApp: OLEVariant; begin ExcelApp := CreateOleObject('Excel.Application'); I get an "invalid class string". I have no Excel installed. Could it be that the object is only accessable after installing Excel ? If this is the case, I have somewhere an Office97 around. Will it work with this older one ? Or is it possible (for me preferable) to download / install only the nececary files to create the object without installing Excel ? --- Rgds, Wilfried mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.mestdagh.biz __________________________________________________ Delphi-Talk mailing list -> [email protected] http://www.elists.org/mailman/listinfo/delphi-talk __________________________________________________ Delphi-Talk mailing list -> [email protected] http://www.elists.org/mailman/listinfo/delphi-talk
