Hi Alfred,
> Anybody had a change to take a look or is in posession of Marco CantĂș's
> Mastering Delphi 2005 ?
I have it (actually for a few weeks already), and it's about the same
size as previous editions (900 pages of content, plus 45 pages of
index). Four real parts, plus a fifth part with two small appendices
(mentioning other helpful resources).
The four parts contain 23 chapters. The first part is "Foundations" and
covers introduction to Delphi 2005 (or Borland Developer Studio 3.0 as
it's called here) as well as the Delphi language for Win32 and .NET, VCL
(for Win32 and .NET), as well as WinForms, the RTL and the .NET FCL. A
lot of topics, and 350 pages for those first 9 chapters.
The second part is called "Delphi Object-Oriented Architectures" and
includes chapters on Refactoring and Unit Testing, libraries, packages
and assemblies, plus COM and .NET interoperability (written by Brian
Long), with a total of just under 100 pages.
The third part covers the Delphi Database-Oriented Architectures,
including chapters on ADO, ADO.NET, DataSnap, and 30 pages on ECO. About
230 pages.
The fourth part, about 220 pages is about the Internet, covering HTML
and HTTP development, WebSnap, IntraWep, ASP.NET (35 pages), and Web
Services + SOAP.
Not every topic get the same in-depth coverage - sometimes I have a
feeling it's just getting interesting, and by that time the chapter just
finished. I'm biased, since I wrote my own courseware manuals which are
more than 100 pages on a single topic (like ASP.NET or ADO.NET), but
this book covers a lot of Delphi topics, just not in a complete in-depth
level of detail (otherwise it would have been a 3,000 page book I think).
Still, given the number of Delphi for .NET books (and the quality of the
on-line help of Delphi 2005), this book is one I can recommend to any
Delphi 2005 developer!
