Much of the problems were solved by puting a 1 in the record variable in 
reset and rewrite functions. Even though I thought of this, I was assuming 
that a untyped File was dynamic and would resize itself. Which brings me to 
the question on the recsize parameter, I do not know the meaning of putting 
a 1 in there. Since the default is 128 bytes, should I calculate the 
sumation of sizeof(sometype)'s and use that? The delphi help file doesnt get 
into the values that should be used in this parameter.

problem might be because the default blocksize is 128 bytes. Try Reset(f, 
1);
