jabber (http://jabber.org) was, i believe, first written in delphi (5).
jabber has been ported to a lot of other languages but there are still
delphi libraries on the site.

AidAim also recently released MsCommunicator, which is supposed to be a
client/server IM sdk, havent looked at it myself, and its not opensource.
http://www.aidaim.com/delphi_messenger_sdk_instant_messaging_sdk_im_sdk.htm

there used to be a winjab project, now its been superceeded by exodus:
http://exodus.jabberstudio.org/ maybe use a google site-search to root
out the delphi libraries.

finally theres Ticqlib on sourceforge, might be just what youre looking
for: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ticqlib
