Has anyone else seen the Alexandra Jarvis video? She's an eleven
year old who shows from high in an office overlooking beautiful downtown
Melbourne Australia, just how easy it can be to create a simple dB app using
ECO III. Its not just that ECO III makes it so easy, but that she's a
literate enough programmer at that age to be able to build the app...and to
do so faster than I'd be able to! I'm so depressed!
I downloaded a copy of it from the model driven architecture forum
on the Delphi Newsgroups where it was posted by Liz who frequents the dB
list here a lot. And as she commented, it would truly be great if there was
some kind of written tutorial to go along with it because it's difficult to
see why things are done and why they happen as they do.
It would be called magic by programmers of the 50's and 60's I'm
sure! But whatever it's called, Borland definitely has something here that
could fundamentally change the way application coding is done. It makes RAD
look slow! Unfortunately, and as is typical for Borland, the documentation
on ECO III and Together is sparse to say the least, and like any new concept
or systems approach to problem solving or design methodology, getting to the
point where one groks it well enough to make use of the way Miss Jarvis did
requires more than just having the toolbox dumped in your lap!
If Borland would release a book size documentation set on these
techniques I would spring for the architect version of BDS 2007 when it
arrives just for this one feature alone!
