Thanks Wilfried, It works (even with the registration, so you don't have to dig that up for me), but without the message definitions, my event log shows this:
"The description for Event ID ( 2 ) in Source ( Test Event Source ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): This is my test message." So it complains about that underfined message ID and simply displays the 'insertion string' (which, according to the doc should be used as an argument for formatting).
