  I have to yank out the manuals on them again, but from memory, the 
pre and post characters were single ascii characters and as such not 
fool-proof.  With Dos apps, I had used the tilde to activate the 
sequnce, thinking that it was the least used key... long filenames 
has changed that.  I am considering writing a driver that will detect 
the leader, save the keys until a timeout or a trailer and then 
provide the barcodes as a separate item.

If possible, I would suggest serial.... the cost and requirement for 
another port stuffs it up somewhat.
