A couple of advantages for the readers. Pros 1.With a different Subject prefix and reply-to address the mail can be automatically sorted into folders by ost mail reading software these days. (by it's primary subject ignoring the likelihood of crossposing for a moment). 2. Theoretically no increase in mail traffic for the server but a possible reduction for the list member. (It may be possible that amateur or student individuals may not be interested in certain areas). Cons 1. Most people will subscribe to all lists anyway so it doesn't benefit them much (except for the sorting Pro(1)). 2. Many messages cross several topical boundaries and therefore either must be posted in the closest list, a general list or crossposted to several (negating Pro(2) from the servers point of view). Whilst I like the idea of auto-categorisation (I get a lot of mail it'd be nice to be able to prioritise) I can see the sheer volume increasing if we split the groups up much in which case a news server would better suit the purpose. -- Aaron Scott-Boddendijk Jump Productions (07) 838-3371 Voice (07) 838-3372 Fax -----Original Message----- From: Nic Wise <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Multiple recipients of list delphi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Wednesday, 21 April 1999 11:40 Subject: {Mon-Incoming} Re: [DUG]: OK, the automatic sub/unsub thing doesn't work, tho I think there is info on how to get on/off the list up there in its place. Any problems fire them thru, and I'll do it manually - needless to say, I'd rather you did it :) As for the DB list, I'm fairly hesitant to split the delphi list up into 2, mostly becuase DB stuff is VERY fundamental to Delphi - I'd say 99% of apps are DB-related, so its going to hit home with 90-95% of people who read the main DUG list. There's always the delete key. Nic.
