Ooooooh, I love a good SQL religeous debate.

I have used both IB 5.5 and MS SQL 6.5 (and Sybase before that) heaps. From
what I have seen/read of MS SQL 7, transact sql hasn't changed much.

My first impression of IB's dialect was not good but after using it for 2
years I find I can do most things as well - if not better - than with
Transact SQL. IB's use of sp's for selects is very usefull.

When we decided the go with IB instead of MSSQL (6.5 or 7) we did so becuase
of 1) Footprint size 2) Complexity/somplicity 3) Can we sleep at night. IB
won on all 3. Since installing 5.5 at all our sites (50 ish) we have not
had any database related problems such as corruption, full temp space, slow
performance, installation hassles. Like they say, Embed, Deploy, Relax.

The thing I miss the most with IB is a master database. MSSQL is nice for
this as you can easily create global stuff for all databases. IB also needs
more built in functions but it is much easier (or was) to create your own
udf's.

IB 6 will answer a lot of questions/complaints I have such as XXXXXXX
CENSORED CENSORED.
