[DUG]: Error-level - A Newbie Question

I'm using Interbase for the backend of my app and have a utility that runs GBAK to create a backup  (using WinExecandWait).   How do I check that the process ran ok (e.g. check the error-level returned by GBAK or whatever)?? keeping in mind that it needs  to be Win98/98/NT compatible.   TIA
