Why Async Pro when the ICS component can handle 100/1000's users & already
comes with sample FTP clients and Servers?
Looking at the suggestions for using pc-A (which I have also used & like for
support), I must have mis-understood the orginal post.
Are you trying to roll your own Back Orifice style system where by you can
dial into a remote PC & browse & transfer files, or trying to implement
automated store & forward file transfer system?

In that case, I would use TurboPower Async Professional FTP component to
develop a FTP server. APD FTP component has one shortage, only allow one
connection at server, but I suspect it will not be the probem for you.

Thanks Jeremy,
yer we use PCA here as well for fixing our machines in Oz, works really
well.
In this scenario the receiver would not be able to have PCA, so I think I
might try the FTPapproach, what I was more getting at was handling the
dialup connection if the receiver has 95/98 - it does not have RAS does it
or am I out of the loop so what do I look at to program the receiving of the
connection etc.
Cheers,
Matt.

I suspect that the best thing to do would be to use the FTP protocal for
sending and receiving files.
You could write an FTP server for the dailup machine. Then the client could
then be any ftp program.
BUT from my own excepriences here, you might be best to go one of these
following ways:-
1. Use an NT or Linux box to do the dialing part and authentificaion and use
the above FTP idea.
2. Purchase something like PCAnywhere which will then give you a nice
GUI(but slow) interface, and also does authentification etc. and use its
file transfere part, which also does SpeedSync. which only uploads the
changed bytes of the program...IF it exists alreadyon their machine,
therefore cutting back on traffice, and obv. time.
I have used both methods, but it really depends on the $$ involved, and the
type of interface you want your client to have/see.
Hope this helps,
Jeremy Coulter

Hi Guys,
if you had to write an app to allow someone dialling in to connect then to
copy files back and forth where would you start?
I assume I would have to write an app for both ends. The receiver would be
95/98/NT but the dialler would be NT based.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Matt.
