If you are using a "WinModem", then all data pump, and buffering are done
with software. This could be causing your problem. Try the same code with an
external modem (or a proper *Read Old Style* internal modem) installed and
see what happens.

Yes, uses rasapi32.dll
What I have always noticed is when the system makes a request for DUN, at
about the same time the modem goes off-hook and does the dial-up, the system
goes real cludgy for a few occasions, then frees up when negotiations are
completed. I have noticed this on all systems I have used with Win 95 and
98. A prime example would be you are playing an MPEG file, and it glitches
until the dial-up is sorted out, it even happens whilst playing CDs.
Any other contributors to this?
