No experience with MIDAS, but with the proxy client, you want to make sure:

1.  That you can ping the server from the client (this is a basic test and
one that you should do in most circumstances).  Do not use the browsers (IE
& Netscape) because they bypass the proxy client.

2.  If installing on Win95, there is a problem in the wsock32.dll that the
proxy client installs.  I cannot remember the exact problem, but to get
around it, I obtained the wsock32.dll from a non-proxy client machine,
renamed it to mywsock.dll, and hacked my EXE to use mywsock.dll.  This only
works if the server is on the same side of the proxy as the client.
