Hiding databases from Clients is, in my experience too, is an important
thing to do.
It's actually one of the reasons I always preferred "Native Drivers" ala
SQL-Links in the BDE, because it means that I didn't have to accept
responsibility for putting an ODBC or OLE-DB (what's it called now? oops
ADO) driver on a machine, and so allow 'Power' users screw with tables.
[ disclaimer: I also never tried too hard to lock out users by defining
secret passwords, or database roles ]
Of course these days it's one of the reasons I like CORBA -- no database
connectivity at all.
