Or recompile. If you use open source code, your applications _may_ more readily port to new platforms even if the company that originally wrote the code no longer exists. I think this is going to be a requirement in the future for almost all projects eventually - I've worked on so many projects that have come about because the original source for the 'current' system was not available for minor tweaks... requires good quality source though.
