The S3 drivers seem to be responsible for all sorts of horrible things.

Even using S3's own generic drivers on my el-cheapo Virge 3D card, I had to
turn off the hardware acceleration in my machine completely before I could
install more than a certain number of components into Delphi. (The whole
computer would lock up, not just Delphi).

Unfortunately this means the display updates slower, but at least now I can
have dozens of components installed :)
