This project is at the initial stages of developing a large and complex system with open n-tier architecture, developed in java and delphi, using corba middleware and an object orientated database. The project team makes strong use object orientated modelling techniques, UML, and rational unified process. High quality hardware and software development tools are supplied to the team. Forest Research is the principal supplier of research and technological development to the New Zealand forestry sector. It has approximately 380 employees located on the edge of Rotorua city and adjacent the Redwood forest park. The work environment is pleasant, relaxed, and flexible. The position ideally suits someone who has an interest in science or may enjoy a research environment. Rotorua offers excellent life style with great outdoor pursuits (mountain biking, fishing, sailing, canoeing etc), numerous lakes nearby, and is not far from snow skiing or a Bay of Plenty beach. The work involves engineering, programming, and maintenance of software that forms a decision support system. The successful applicant will be comfortable as part of a team and will have expertise in computer programming and software design. The ideal applicant would have the following attributes:
· Experience with GUI development in the Delphi environment. · Tertiary qualification in computer science, good mathematical skills and an interest in applied research · Knowledge and experience with object oriented design principles · Experience with development of software for the Microsoft Windows environment · Experience in using the Rational Unified Process of development · Ability to provide input on design aspects of other programming projects · Good written and oral communication skills · Ability to work independently and as member of a team Work experience is essential, the position would suit a person familiar with software design and implementation. Successful applicants will be part of a project team (including 8 or more programmers) and will need to interact with team members and the project leader on a regular basis. Forest Research will be happy to train suitable candidates that do not have all the required skills.
