I believe you just treat the final result as a 16 bit integer (word) and add
1 to this result.

I have a Table for calculating a 16-*Bit CRC using the Polynomial: X^16 +
X^15
+ X^2 + X^1
We need to convert the table from using X^16 + X^15 + X^2 + X^1 to using
X^16
+ X^15 + X^2 + 1 - (Our App talks to a mainframe App which uses this CRC)
