Yeh, I'm actually surprised more smtp daemons and clients don't use the
SMTP-AUTH patch, I've never seen it myself, only read about it, afaik it
uses the same protocol as POP3 and goes along the lines of
$ telnet localhost 25
helo mymachine
user mark
pass xxxx
mail from...
--
