Happy New Year everyone,
At the start of the year we usually try and get some administrative details sorted out.
At the end of this message, I have copied the List instructions and NETIQUETTE!!!
Things tend to degenerate over time, and to ensure
that the list is kept as an effective tool for everyone, PLEASE READ THE RULES!!!
In particular, please observe the content rules - anything not related to Delphi
technical should move to the OFFTOPIC List, and please,
please keep the subject line of your messages relevant to your content. if you
introduce new content to a message, then please update
the subject line.
Web Page
We need some volunteers to get this into shape. I would like to see developed a proper
archive of our list messages, along with current
links to Delphi resources on the web. Any volunteers, please give send me an email on
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
We also hope to have some more technology behind the list server to provide a much
better user interface on the web for list
management. Watch this space.
Group Meetings
I want to get some more meetings in place this year - at least every 2-3 months. I can
organise this in Auckland, but need to have
someone take responsibility in Wellington and Christchurch. If anyone wants to take
the leap here, please email me.
Other lists
Just so you do not forget, we do have other lists for DATABASE, CPLUSPLUS and
INTERBASE topics. Do we need a JBuilder one too?
Kylix? Please let me know if you want anything else.
Borcon Conferences
The New Zealand and Australian Borcons have been very successful, and while they are
scheduled for the end of the year, you need to
get the costs into your IT Training budgets now.
Training Courses
Borland are offering formal training courses in all their tools, and are a very
valuable investment for new and old programmers. If you
think your organisation (or you for that matter) could benefit from this, then please
contact Annie Larsen at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Project Kylix
This is coming soon. Have you read the latest news on the Borland website?
<http://www.borland.com/kylix/> Have you been to one of
Nic Wise's excellent presentations? I guess that we will need to address this "Delphi
for Linux" product in due course. I'd suggest that
we have a Kylix list, and perhaps an adjunct "linux system issues" list as the two
will be linked. Any ideas, please let me know.
Also take a look at Dr Bob's site for more (and very up to date) Kylix news:
<http://www.drbob42.com/kylix/>. And just for good
measure;
Delphi32 http://www.delphi32.com/info_facts/kylix/index.asp
HADP http://www.hadp.org/kylix.htm
and if you speak Spanish and Portugese - http://www.mundokylix.com/
That's all for now folks. All the best for the coming year.
Kind Regards
Gary Benner

The text below is the new Welcome Message for new Users - Everyone should read this
just in case they forgot!!
==========================================================================
Welcome to The NZ Delphi List
This Email List Service has been set up by, and for New Zealand Delphi programmers, to
share expertise, ideas, problems, issues, and
good news with other Delphi programmers.
The List Service redistributes mesages sent to the List Server email address to all
subscribers. You can reply to any of these messages,
or sent new messages (or posts as they are sometimes called).
To post to the List Service please send messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Note that
replies must also be sent to this address. The
return address of List messages is usually the originator, so be careful to change
this before replying.
For issues not directly relevant to Delphi, we have set up an "offtopic" list.
Everyone usually gets subscribed to this list at the same time
as joining the main Delphi List. This list is a place to discuss those other matters,
and often a thread will be moved to "offtopic" if it
develops into another topic not directly related to technical Delphi matters. The
posting address for the offtopic list is
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Note that messages from the main Delphi List have the subject line prefixed with
[DUG], and the Offtopic list with [DUG-OFFTOPIC].
This allows you to have your mail reader filter messages into specific mailboxes. This
is a recommended way of keeping all your
messages from the list in an orderly fashion. You can then also search your own
archive of messages for specific topics at a later time.
Netiquette:
Please remember to observe the normal etiquette required for these types of email
lists:
1. Post material pertinent to THIS list only. ie it is a technical forum, not a chat
room!
2. Keep it concise.
3. When replying to a list message, delete all irrelevant material from the previous
post.
4. "Me too's" at the bottom of 3 pages of copied text are a definite no no!
5. Keep posts positive, and constructive. Flaming other list members, or personal
criticism gets you off the list faster that an
unsubscribe.
6. Messages pertinent to an individual only should go to that person, NOT the list.
Remember that there are over 300 subscribers to this
list, and clutter in their inbox tends to make this List less effective.
7. Subject Lines: The subject line gives List users an indication of the content. When
busy it's useful to be able to scan the subject line
of the emails from the list, and read only those that of particular interest. So, if
you change the focus of the content of a message in a
message reply, then please update the content of the subject line as well.
8. If you are experiencing a problem with the list, technical or otherwise, then
please email the list admin - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Do
not send these reports to the List itself. "Pinging" the list is not appreciated.
If you know of someone who wishes to join the list, or should be on the list, then
please have them email [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To unsubscribe from this list please email [EMAIL PROTECTED] This may take a
day or two to be processed, so do not panic. Please
supply the List name(s), your name, AND the email address you subscribed with.
Kindest Regards
Gary Benner
