All these comments flying through... I thought I will put my views too.... FACTS: Back in 1998, I wanted to buy Delphi. I contacted the "all India!!" supplier in the country. Told him what I needed. They guys never got back to me. Know why? Because they simply didn't care. That's understood. So I contact Borland directly and they tell me I should talk to the "all India" suppliers. Hmm... catch22? The projectfinally didn't get anywhere for the following reasons: 1. too much time to get hands on Delphi, 2. client wasn't sure if it would be the right language to program in. Results... we didn't buy Delphi. Borland... are you listening?? In the so-called "consumer driven" markets, it looked like Borland clients are on lowest priority. I met Terry Versace, Asia Pacific manager for Borland and expressed deep grevience about the sorry state of Delphi in India. I can literally count on my fingers the number of books available for Delphi...6. And if I am being extremely generous...8! Training centers? That I cant count... because there aren't any!! India's considered a leading software development country and trust me if Borland couldn't take a lion's share in the market, its not because of their tools (which we all know)... it's because they simply have nothing up their sleeves when it comes to marketing and promotion. Yeah, they had couple of road shows in some metro cities but it fizzled out. I have been a developer for over 4 years. Don't program much, mainly design architecture now. Delphi still remains my favourite tool. I stuck on because I know the language, VCL and can't even compare VC or VB with it... but if Borland doesn't make changes in it's strategies... who knows! I am not surprised now when I mention Delphi and people respond.... "What's that??" best regards, NIRAV KAKU --------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Zealand Delphi Users group - Delphi List - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Website: http://www.delphi.org.nz To UnSub, send email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] with body of "unsubscribe delphi"
