We do this all the time.  It makes it really easy to keep everyone on the
same version - as there is only one exe.  And yes you do have to kick
everyone off before upgrading.  

There is a way around this if you are running Windows 2000.  If someone is
running the App you can change the name of the App through Windows Explorer
(e.g. change AppName.exe to AppName2.exe) while someone is running it, then
put the new version (of AppName.exe) in that directory.  The next time that
person runs that App they will get the new version.

I think this is a bug in Windows 2000 that lets you change the name of a
file while someone is using it.  This also doesn't work with all files.
e.g. it won't work with an interbase database, but most exe's will allow you
to change their name if someone else on the network is running the program.

We have done that here with a couple of apps. The only things you
have to look out for is when trying to update it with a new version,
no user can have it running at the time.
