Hi,

I'm in the same boat and I'm corrently giving CVS a go at home for organising docs &
source. I run the CVS server on my Debian box and use WinCVS on WinXP. Once you
understand what's going on with CVS it all makes sense. I'd recommend you persist ;)

There is a difference in paradigm between CVS and other options, such as VSS. VSS is
server oriented while CVS is client oriented. This is taking some getting used to but
I certainly see the advantages of CVS.

Some things in CVS are bad, such as moving stuff around, but it forces you to think
about organising things properly to begin with ;)

What do you mean by "too manual"? What client are you using for CVS? WinCVS, as far as
I have used it, is just as good os the VSS client IMHO.

I definitely recommend reading about how CVS works. I'm sure you've already done a
fair amount of this. Knowing the terminology certainly helps with understanding what
the menu items are for & understandng the paradigm.

I use VSS at work so I've seen both sides :)

VSS costs, CVS is OSS. For what you pay for CVS it far exceeds VSS IMHO ;)

Check out www.freevcs.org for another option. It's OSS now. I think a few people on
the list use this. Any comments anyone?

MTCW,

Chris
