Hi I've got a SCSI scanner which often isn't on when the PC is powered up and so doesn't appear in the list of available devices.
Turning it on later powers up the scanner but windows doesn't know it's available unless you open up the Device Manager, right click on the top icon (the Computer), and select "Scan for Hardware Changes". I don't have a problem with this but for the sequence is obscure for those that don't understand what they're doing. There must be a system call (for Win2000 & XP) that one could use instead - does anyone know what it is? I'd like to make a tiny "Find Scanner" program but but got lost whilst looking amongst the many thousands of possible system calls ...
