DBISAM is an excellent product, and my first choice for many situations, but be aware of the following:
Table indexes are critical for decent speed. Keep away from multiple joins with large tables. Indexes are Case-Sensitive by default - be careful if converting from BDE. Date format is ANSI i.e. yyyy-mm-dd All joined queries are canned - not directly updatable. Same goes for un-optimised queries - check case-sensitivity in WHERE clause expressions. It can be faster than BDE/Paradox in some circumstances but often takes a lot of SQL testing to get to that point, whereas the BDE seems to give good results no matter what you do with indexes etc. DBISAM support though is excellent.
