Check out SAK mail. Its GREAT and has less overhead that IMS (which I have) and Indy, and its EASY to use !
Its on SourceForge, but if you cant find it, email me priv. and I can send the files.
Fastnet is probably quickest to get up and going *if it works*. Up to d5 the some of the Fastnet components were not very reliably/well supported, but I didn't have any trouble with the SMTP component. Don't know about d6+.
Indy does it the full-on-OO way (add TIdEMailAddressItem to the Recipients list etc), and ICS is the close-to-the-metal way - I think Daves message is a reasonable eg of it.
Never tried SAK tho'.
