What it would have potential as is a home automation device. Unfortunately being so locked into the "apple way" I doubt it would be usable as such a thing.
Many home automation systems have had large touch screen remote devices for a while. Opus, Niles, Crestron, RTI, Control4 - systems are expensive though.
