myOffice Email MessageOk, here goes my answers -

Q1 - Put three on each side - if they are the same then the heavy ball is one
of the remaining balls so you compare them to find the heavy ball; if the first
weighing is uneven you take the heavy group and weigh two of them against each
other - if they are the same the third ball is the heavy one, if they are
uneven you have the heavy ball on the scales. BTW, this has been posed before,
I'm sure, and you can do this with up to nine balls. It gets more interesting
when you don't know whether the odd one out is heavier or lighter.

Q2 - Everyone who votes yes gets an equal share. Watch those hands go up . . .
Or, I get a third share, the first crewman to vote yes gets half of what's left
(ie a third share), the next yes vote gets half of what's left (ie a sixth
share) etc. Now watch those hands go up! This could provoke a few fights,
though, which might reduce the pool of potential winners - depends if you need
the whole crew afterwards or can get by with a skeleton crew (NPI).

Q3 - All the women nod their heads because they already knew this - they all
know there are at least 99 unfaithful men in the village. All the men look
sheepish because they all know there's at least one unfaithful husband. None
of the women know for sure whether their own husbands have been unfaithful but
they have to be wondering so after nodding they all give their own husbands a
very sharp look.

  HI all,
This is usually for the Off topic List but I just checked and many are not
registered on that list ....

So here goes ... here are some questions from a well known company ... but
don't cheat and search online ...try and think them through.

  Question 1

You have eight balls all of the same size. Seven of them weigh the same. One
of them weighs slightly more. How can you find the heavier ball by using a
balance and only two weighings?

  Question 2

Youre a pirate ship captain, and your crew gets to vote on how the gold is
divided. If fewer than half the pirates agree with you, you die. How do you
recommend apportioning the gold in such a way that you get a good share of the
booty, but still survive?

  Question 3

Every man in a village of 100 married couples has cheated on his wife. Every
wife in the village instantly knows when a man other than her husband has
cheated, but does not know when her own husband has. The village has a law that
does not allow for adultery. Any wife who can prove that her husband is
unfaithful must kill him that very day. The women of the village would never
disobey this law. One day, the queen of the village visits and announces that
at least one husband has been unfaithful. What happens?

Have a great weekend ... long one for the Auckland bods.

  cheers

  Gary
