In a program I'm updating I have a function which traces back and
finds the real target address of a shortcut on the Win XP Pro desktop, and
uses the result to execute the actual file. I hadn't taken notice before,
but it only works when the shortcut's target is a "lnk" file!
Some of the shortcuts automatically added to one's desktop by the
operating system not only do not show the typical shortcut icon overlay, but
also do not have a properties dialog from which you can resolve the exe file
pointed to. And these same shortcuts also do not appear in one's personal
desktop folder under Documents and Settings! The Icon placed on one's
desktop by the Office XP Pro installation for OutLook XP is one of these,
and Internet Explorer is another.
Foes anyone know how to resolve the address of the files these type
of shortcuts point to?
