I didn't know about that one, but it sure does add to the benefits
of code-folding! I've been finding it difficult to use as is except for
hiding IDE-written code in Net or C#. Unfortunately even this doesn't give
me what I want because the region has to be inclusive...that is you cannot
set up the same named region in various parts of your code and fold/unfold
then all that have this same name from the first on or anyone of that same
name. In fact a Region Name isn't even of use as you can name each section
exactly the same and each one will act on it's own and separate from any
other! I would like to be able to set up regions of specific methods that
can be easily gotten out of the way and then be brought back again when
needed, such as all those accessing a datamodule...things of that nature.
Does anyone know of this is possible?
Otherwise I'd have to say that my favorite 2005 IDE trick is one of
the simplest and most obvious there is, and that one being the ability to
toggle large amounts of code on and off via comments quickly. In previous
versions one had to place the first comment which would color all the code
until you actually found your end point and placed the closing brace. Now
you can simply select the text you want to comment out quickly and use the
key command or menu item to do this. Much less intrusive when your mind is
on more important aspects of work!

Subject: Lesser Known IDE Features You Find Useful
Hi all --
I thought it could be useful to all of us to get a thread going where we
share IDE features (or even configurations) that we've found to boost our
productivity. You might become more efficient or happy because of a feature
you didn't know was there--and you might be able to help others do the same
:-)
In that spirit, I'll try to start ...
Code folding is a feature in D2005 that I find useful. However, the IDE also
lets you define your own custom regions that can be folded and unfolded. If
you've got a group of procedures, for example, that are similar and
logically grouped together, you can fold and unfold the entire group as one.
At the beginning of the new region enter
{$REGION 'Name of Region'}
followed by
{$ENDREGION}
at the region's endpoint.
What makes you more productive?
Al C.
