I don't have need to worry about the C++ personality, but I DO worry
when any part of a product is admittedly not up to speed but is being
released anyway. That's purely a financial concern on their part and I just
pray that it doesn't mean there are also problems with the basic core of the
product that might cause trouble for the Delphi personality when they start
to patch it down the road. Also, I wish I could afford the next level up
from the Pro version that I've always bought now that I'm so deep into
database work and learning xml, asp.
I didn't notice a price list anywhere...don't know if I missed it or
if they haven't published one yet...but does anyone know what the price is
to be for upgrading to the Pro and/or the Ent versions from a Pro D20005?
Also, Bob S., you would most likely know better than anyone....How
much closer has the Delphi for NET version gotten to being 100% compliable?
I realize it probably never can be totally the same just because of the VCL,
but I've had quite a difficult time wrapping my head around the differences,
especially when it comes to things like how namespaces are used and Delphi's
units vs. NET files, and Cyclic problems, etc. It's difficult enough just
fathoming NET as Microsoft lays it out, and even with Chrome allowing me to
write in Pascal, the many difference in how one must design a program are so
great that I feel like I'm using something completely different yet again!
I've found a lot about NET that I really like, especially adding in
the new code constructs Chrome allows, but at the same time I truly do miss
the flexibility that the VCL offers and many things about the Delphi IDE
itself, but as I've said before THIS time around I'm not going to jump on it
the day it is released. I want to be sure it's useable this time! I think
another round of having to wait six months on patches before being able to
work with it would be the real death knell for Delphi...at least in my eyes.
A few minor problems that can be worked around I can deal with but if I end
up spending that much money for the third time with the same results.
