I've got an administrative dialog included as part of a computer
network and system management utility I wrote for a small business. Guest
accounts are turned off for all machines on the network, and a specially
encrypted config file is opened at startup which the administrator can use
to disallow a particular username from accessing the system at all without
prior approval. The owner has asked me now to include a way in this same
dialog which he can use to prevent username accounts from accessing
particular directories and/or files as well, in fact he even wants me to set
it up so a particular username cannot even create shortcuts to these
disallowed directories and/or applications!
I thought this was going to be quite simple, but the shared folder
settings available through Explorer is grayed out making it seemingly
impossible to even make a folder private to a single user! So is this even
possible under winXP pro? Does the administrator need to set access rights
via the administrative cp applet? Do I need some 3rd party code to handle
this? Any advice appreciated!
