Thanks for your suggestions.

Jason, reading from a file certainly gets the information. However, the
program I want to execute may take a little time to run and I want the
users to have the option to watch the feedback log 'live', as it is
generated. This will be my fallback solution, though.

Sean, thanks for suggesting the correct search terms! My previous
searches had given me thousands of pages I didn't want to see ...

Report back: there are many references to "console redirect" solutions
but most seem to lead back to just two sources. The one I liked the best
originates from Production Robots Engineering and is dated 2001:

http://www.pre.demon.co.uk/delphi.htm

(look for 'console')

The source is provided, with extensive commentary and references to
Windows documentation. The demo ran without modification but
unfortunately only picked up the return value of the EXE ( " 0 - no
error " ) and didn't pick up the actual text of the log, although
everything in the source suggests it should do. The commentary implies
that this is dependent on the version of Windows so I shall read more
recent Windows documentation then play around for a while and see if I
can make it work.

Thanks again.

Rob
