Evening everyone!
I didn't mention this in my post to the Delphi-Talk List on the same
project because this is an actual technical question and it would have
gotten lost in the larger thread.
One of the many things I was speaking to my friend and client about
the other night was the scripting methods that they use to run and execute
3rd party application commands, as well as to allow interaction between them
and specific catalog images. They've actually been using a mixture of
scripting languages and methods that include VB and a lot of Java.
So I was wondering if anyone here has ever made a lot of use of
scripting, and if so what they might recommend. Basically what I'd like to
see is a Pascal-like scripting language that could be used both within a
Delphi app to allow it's user to write and run scripts that can control and
possibly add to the application itself, as well as provide a way to execute
shell commands of the OS, and control other applications to some degree, and
Which could also be used to process data, having types, methods, etc.
I've wanted to look into this for some time now, but now my client
has expressed a wish that I could provide such a scripting language with the
app I'm now working on that could allow for script writing and running,
replacing the need for them to have all these others on their systems. And
since my app will have to store these scripts in and run them from the dB
Files anyway, a single, well integrated system would do the job a lot better
than the way these scripts are now being handled.
Any suggestions? Which language has the widest range of abilities?
Could a compiler be embedded within a Delphi application so that their
scripts could not only be generated from within the app but run as well?
