Wow, plenty of response this time, thanks.

I'm too busy right now to chase up the links but will do so within a 
couple of days.  The anti-aliasing links look like my best bet but I'll 
check out the CAD links also.

Essentially the user does not draw in the usual sense.  He just enters 
some dimensional and configuration data and then the software does the 
calculation and decides how to draw it.  Whilst there are some common 
features to draw in each case there are features which are quite 
different on a case to case basis.  In addition after the data has been 
entered and a static drawing made, this drawing animates with some parts 
of the drawing moving relative to other parts.  Using standard 
anti-flicker methods, this animation works well.  The only problem is 
just the jaggy poor quality of the basic image.

Anyway for the benefit of any other listees who may have similar needs 
I'll report back on progress and post links to before and after images.
