If you don't want to upgrade, then Lazarus is a good alternative. Pascal language, 64 bit compatible, and it's FREE

There are a number of Delphi features like support for MDI (Multiple Document Interface) which are not implemented or only partly so. See the Lazarus web site pages for tables to see if needed features are available.

If you have a full (not upgrade, rescue or XP) Win32 OS installation DVD, here are some alternatives.

1) With a free disk partitioning utility like GParted, reduce the size of the Win64 OS partition to make space for a a new partition and install Win32 to create a multi-boot system, or add a separate hard disk for the 32 bit OS and install Delphi 3 under Win32. If you have the Win32 installation DVD for Vista, Win7 or Win 8, with some less comfort you can resize the extant partition to make space.

2) Install a virtual machine like VMware Player or Virtual Box (free versions available) and install a 32 bit Windows andh Delphi 3.

Subject: Running Delphi on 64-bit machines

 I'm a legacy user of Delphi 3 where I
am able to write small and medium applications for my personal needs and education. I have never needed anything more.

I just upgraded to a 64-bit Windows 7 machine and Delphi 3 won't install because 'it is not compatible'. I don't want to create 64-bit applications. I just want to run Delphi 3.

Is there a workaround for this? Is it the installer that is not compatible or is it Delphi 3 itself? If I need to upgrade, what is the 'minimum' upgrade of Delphi I need to install on a 64-bit Win7 computer?

Thank you for your time and attention.
