I've solved this by uninstalling AQTime (which I'm not currently using). It's the second solution here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10037719/complete-class-at-cursor-not-working Rather unsatisfactory but at least class completion is working again (which is one of those things that I can no longer live without).
