I realize that and rely on that but it’s not working. Although the coloured background is being replaced with a white background when it’s displayed, so some transparency is happening somewhere.

The colour of the bottom left hand corner pixel is taken as the transparency colour. ie the pixels omitted from the glyph to make it transparent.
