My simple comment is that for 90% of users a simple 8 point font is just too small for most. - 96 dpi 800*600 or even at 1024*768.
In one case we use a TT Bold font for all data entry fields and grids. The field labels have remained in regular font. We normally use Verdana or Tahoma as our base TT fonts. Verdana has been designed for easy reading on computer screens. The Verdana font does take up more space for labels etc, but it has reduced or stopped complaints. If we use Tahoma - it is normally in 8/9pt Bold. I know on Win2000 the DPI setting is driven by the system font size. A display setting (advanced). I've had trouble with users having a size different to the designed form DPI. The only way I could be sure of visual components staying in the same relative position on the form was to set the forms Scaled property to false leaving the AutoSize false as well. My form is sizable and has components Anchored in various combinations of top, bottom, left and right. Your problem I suspect is the same as I had with Scaling. Scaling is applied relative to the form's designed DPI when the form is created. This is the PixelsPerInch property of the form. If you change this property then Scaled switches to true and it will scale itself even on the designers machine - you should see results as I did of incorrect positioning. 96 DPI I suspect is what most computers are set up with these days on 1024x768 and Small Font. But some of my users complain that what I design is too small for them to see on screen (do they need glasses?). Perhaps I need to enlarge the font as designed but then those users usually have 800x600 desktop and the form gets too big to fit. How do you win?
