You've always been able to call Free on nil'd pointers in Delphi.
That's the point of Free as opposed to just calling Destroy.

Now that is something I've learnt today - I have a feeling the idea of
setting and uncreated object to NIL could be more siuseful as well. Not sure
for what yet!
