I have also been looking at OLAP components... I have come down to two... HierCube that you mention, hasn't fallen over for me, but I have sent several messages to the developer to 'test' support and have had no response yet.
The other is ContourCube (www.ContourComponents.com) which is available in VCL form for Borland C++ developers, or ActiveX for Delphi. It is faster and uses less memory than HierCube, but does not have all the functionality, such as allowing users to create their own groups, and allowing users to easily add Min, Max, Average etc. I have also 'tested' their support, am currently waiting on a reply sent last week, but for a couple of previous queries, did receive a reply reasonably quickly. They also said that they will be looking at a Delphi VCL version hopefully this year. Does anyone know how easy/hard it is to go from Borland C++ package to a Delphi one? The Contour people seem to think that converting a package over from Delphi to C++ was easier than from C++ to Delphi. I have a bunch of data coming from a FireBird database that I need to apply some OLAP components to deal with. The original Decision cube which came with delphi (some versions ago) wouldn't work without the BDE, I've found some stuff which will work in D6 (but is as buggy as hell), and won't work at all in D7 'coz apparently my D7 professional license is not up to the task. I've also found the HierCube components, but their eval version is sufficiently broken that I can't use it to evaluate whether or not it is up to the task. I suppose I could leverage Excel to do the job, but I don't own a copy of Excel, and the OpenOffice DataPilot is probably sufficiently different that I would be painting myself into a corner if I tried to use that. All I need is seven dimensions with a single COUNT summary, grid and chart support, and toast and caviar available on demand. Not much to ask. WL Decision Cube spits the dummy at more than 5 dimensions (yes I have the max dimensions property set correctly), and dies an ugly death whenever I refresh the dataset. I was joking about the toast and caviar. Any recommendations?
