A registry entry is probably the easiest option,
with an Inno setup file for each distributor. I think I'll do it
that way.

have it somewhere else in the install for the exe to refer to?
Candidates are a DLL, resource file, file (text or binary). I'd probably
go for a registry entry added into Inno Setup. Keep the exe the same and
just have different Inno sets for each distributor.
