FWIW
If I had $3500 to spend on learning .NET I would buy a copy of Visual
Studio .NET (C# or VB) 2003 for $300, a copy of SQL Server Developer
Edition for $50 and a couple of books for $200.
You'd
save yourself a week's downtime as well. (Or spend the remaining $3k on a
trip to Fiji for a week!)
