If you have all the source required to re-compile from, then deleting the dcus is not harmful. It is what I would do. Sometimes it is easier to just go "right, now you'll be compiled with the right version you little..." and delete all the dcus involved, then start compiling from the bottom.
But you will need the source code to do this. I have only experienced this problem when I am in a position to re-compile everything from source. The dcus and pas files might be on your compile path (or whatever it's called in the IDE) somewhere, they do not have to be directly in the directory that your application is. I would search my whole computer with windows file search to make sure that I had found them all. If your Delphi is also looking at network drives for it's library paths, then I would also search the network drives.
