I used this for a bit, but the linux box I was using (the only one in the office) as under powered (a 486) and had DMA problems. It sniffs the network and reports what traffic is being transmitted between computers on the network. You'll probably have to plug it into a hub (not a switch) that is attached to your gateway. This has the advantage that you don't have to do anything with NAT, Proxying or IPMasq.

No problem with a Linux box, what software do I need to do the job? I need
to have detailed reporting. I expected to put a box between the ISA box and
the frame relay, just thought it would be easy enough to put an app together
to do it...

That is different because not all network trafic is TCP
You would have to proxy other protocols as well ie UDP
We would put in a Linux box as a router/firewall and use that to monitor the
traffic, Whats ISA? (just kidding)

I just want to be able to log all traffic as it goes by. I thought it would
be a simple task to set up a TCP Server, accept any connections, and pass
them on (i.e. a proxy) whilst logging the port and byte count. The main
reason is that ISA doesn't seem to log all data, especially if it blocks

it,

but the data has still travelled past the ISP, so we get billed for it...

Maybe not...

I can't seem to get it working. Don't know enough about TCP I guess.

A decent OS has this function built in! ie Linux
But seriously I don't think this is trivial
If you are talking NAT you have to deal at the MAC level
which is delving deep down into the networking internals

Any pointers? Examples?
