Yeah probably the easiest, have had pretty good success in the past using
Indy to talk to machine's via sockets. There are some examples with the Indy
download, not sure if the examples come with the version bundled with D7.

You may have some fun converting C Structures to Delphi or vice versa, but
if you used packed records it should be ok.
