Fair enough. I still want to keep the TCP/IP though, so I will wrap that up in component and put a COM interface on it.

Replying to your own post is bad form I know, but no one has 
bitten, so let me ask a simpler question:

Having bought Delphi 2006 Pro (BDS2006, whatever) but not 
used it yet, can anyone tell me if there is a better (as in 
just as easy to use but not reliant on COM) technology than 
ActiveX automation objects that is not in Delphi 6 that I 
should consider using instead?
