For my needs, Firebird is fine. The reliability issue is important - using it
environments without main power and a ship at sea certainly doesnt
have a DBA nor any realistic way to provide support.  Never heard of a problem.
I havent dealt with SQL-server in more than 5 years ago. It was nightmare
then but I am totally unqualified to comment on current system. We use
Oracle in-house and don't even think of going there without a DBA. On
other hand, we like what Oracle delivers. SQL-server is the only other
database with a feature-set that could compete for our particular needs.
