Well I have now tried 3 task switcher programs: TaskSwitcherXP, AltTabThingy and Windows XP Powertoys taskswitch, and they all have the same effect of killing applications with a timer. So out they go, I am back to the simple XP Alt/Tab switcher which does not kill them.
