#1864: gtk client doesn't display torrent list

When I connect to my remote deluge daemon, I can successfully connect but
the list of torrents doesn't display. I know it connects because the
sidebar displays the correct tracker info (verified against the webui) and
the statusbar shows the right upload/download stats. I attached the output
from stderr I got by running 'deluge-gtk 2&> deluge.log'
Client running on Ubuntu Natty with deluge-gtk version 1.3.1-1ubuntu2
daemon running on Debian Squeeze with deluged version 1.2.3+git2
